Mt Albert electorate

Mt Albert is currently vacant, and was held by Labour's Jacinda Ardern until she resigned in April 2023. The electorate centres on Mt Albert, and extends to Kingsland on its eastern boundary and Avondale to the west. In 2020, Ardern won the seat safely with a margin of 21,246. In 2020, Labour won the greatest share of party votes in Mt Albert – 49% to Green's 20%. Labour has held the seat since 1946 and the area the current electorate represents has elected three Labour prime ministers – Michael Joseph Savage, Helen Clark, and Jacinda Ardern.

Why I'm standing

I want to get wages up in this country. As an employment lawyer, I was really concerned about the negative impacts of a low wage economy, and what it meant to people. The stress generated by not being able to pay bills, even when you're working, is unacceptable. It breaks down our families and our communities. Labour is focused on bringing up wages and providing the basics like affordable housing.

About me

I am a local in Mount Albert, having lived here over 30 years. I know many of the people and the problems here, and am invested in solving them. Local knowledge has already helped me help people in our community, such as those impacted by the floods. I have 25 years of real world experience in employment law. That experience drives me, and constantly keeps me grounded as to what will work and what won't.

My priorities
  1. Lift wages in Mount Albert and throughout Aotearoa New Zealand.
  2. Ensure renters and homeowners have warm, dry and affordable homes.
  3. Ensure people and businesses are safe and supported by well-resourced police.
