Auckland Central electorate

Auckland Central covers the Auckland city centre, inner western suburbs and the islands of the Hauraki Gulf. The electorate is currently held by the Green's Chlöe Swarbrick, who won by a narrow margin of 1,068 – one of the smallest margins in the country. In 2020, Labour won the greatest share of party votes in Auckland Central – 46% to National's 21%. Labour held the seat for all but three years between 1919 and 2008.

Why I'm standing

Democracy has died in NZ. Most of the MPs have, long ago, forgotten that their job is to represent the people in their constituency. I want to bring back that principle of true representation by fighting for my voters. Secondly, as Deputy Leader I seek the party vote across the entire nation so that we can build a peoples' 'army' in Parliament to hold the governing party to account and prevent extremes.

About me

Having lived extensively in the City Centre, I understand the priority need to address crime, transport, homelessness and the cost of living – including accommodation. I have run branches of my own business in 18 countries across that number of cultures and ethnicities. I know how to confront problems, negotiate solutions and achieving results. The diversity of Auckland Central needs these skills. My time on a UK Ministry staff equips me to negotiate with Ministers.

My priorities
  1. Make the city safe through 24 hours by implementing our nine point law and order policy.
  2. Ease traffic congestion into, within, and exiting the city centre by suggesting one way traffic.
  3. Return retail businesses to the centre by allocating central government money for rate free periods.
