Why I'm standing

I am standing because I feel at home here and I want to stand for all those who made Aotearoa New Zealand home by choice or displacement. This an opportunity for me to support an inclusive and thriving community where everybody feels at home and valued.

About me

I was born in Somalia, where climate change had a massive impact with unrelenting droughts and famine fuelling conflict. I came to Aotearoa New Zealand as a young asylum seeker and since then I have become a nurse and worked nationally and internationally in health care. I have been involved in my own and other communities especially during Covid-19. Environment and social justice are interwoven and cannot be addressed in isolation.

My priorities
  1. Work to improve access to warm, dry and affordable housing for whanau.
  2. Make health care free and accessible including dental care.
  3. Ensure Christchurch East will be a resilient community through climate change mitigation and adaptation.
